The Atlanta Police Department will review the evidence in the Butts' triple homicide, and also look into any new leads it may get, according to APD Chief Mike Scott after the charges against the department's leading suspect were dropped.

A Cass County Grand Jury no-billed Kevin Hailey on Tuesday. Hailey had been arrested in March and was free on $10,000 bond after a June probable cause hearing. No other arrests have been made in the January murders. A recent article in GQ Magazine painted a picture of incompetence, cover-up and corruption in the case. But if not him, who? Who killed Gerri Faye, Jessica and MacKenzie Butts?

Not Kevin Hailey, according to his mother Kathy Weaver, who told the Bulletin that a libel suit has been filed against GQ.

There have been at least -- at least -- three investigations into these murders, Weaver said. And a judge and a Grand Jury have both said there is not enough evidence against Kevin.

This is the judicial system that rules over our country. We have to live with its decisions. They are the same laws that protect everyone, Weaver continued. The Butts have suffered a great tragedy, but what about Kevin's life? He has to put his life back together. He deserves an opportunity to do that. This is his home, he's not going anywhere. He deserves the benefit of the
doubt.

Weaver also said she realizes a mother would come to the defense of her son, and she has no qualms about that.

I've taken care of him and protected him all his life, just like any mother would, she said. Our lawyer advised us not to talk during the hearing, but now I'm not going to take it anymore. The Hailey family has taken a lot. There have been three investigations -- this chapter is closed.

If not him, who?

Several names surfaced during the probable cause hearing, but were dismissed by the APD investigation. Will these names resurface as suspects?

Who killed the Butts family?

That's all anyone wants to know.
